The working room behind the book

One percent
better,
every week.

A single idea each week from advisors who tried it and it worked. Credited to the advisor who sent it. Two minutes to read, one thing to try before Friday.

The ledger

Five to start. From here on, the entries come from the room.

  • 01Week

Fix one small thing in the office

Walk through your office the way a first-time visitor would. Pick the one thing that looks careless (a chipped mug, a dead plant, a cluttered counter) and replace it today. Small, permanent, repeatable.

  • 02Week

    Unsubscribe instead of delete

For one week, every time an unwanted email lands, scroll to the bottom and unsubscribe instead of deleting it. You solve the problem once instead of every morning.

  • 03Week

A Friday note with no agenda

Set a short recurring block on Friday afternoons. Send a few clients a brief personal message with nothing about business in it. Keep it to whatever your firm's approved channels and record-keeping allow.

  • 04Week

    Greet people by name

Before a client arrives, make sure everyone who will see them knows their name. A greeting by name at the door is the cheapest upgrade to a meeting there is.

  • 05Week

Write down one improvement a week

Put a board or a shared note somewhere the team sees it. Every Friday, one line: the one thing that got better this week. Two tests for each entry: is it permanent, and is it repeatable.

Where this comes from

A real practice, not a stage

Nothing runs here that hasn't been tried in a working week. Not theory, not something lifted off a conference stage. If it didn't survive contact with a Tuesday, it doesn't go in.

Dan built and tested all of it at Asset Financial Planners, a tax-first practice in Cheyenne, Wyoming, that he started four years ago with zero independent experience. That's the whole filter, and it's why every idea is credited. Someone actually did the work.

Notes from the field

What I'm testing right now

What's on the board at the practice this quarter, what worked, and what blew up. Updated when there's something worth saying, not on a schedule.

  • NowTesting

Checking how the practice shows up online

Searching the practice's name and category the way a stranger would, on a phone, and noting what a first-time visitor sees first. Fixing the listings that are incomplete or inconsistent before spending anything on new marketing. Re-checking in 90 days.

Send it in

The problem, the fix, and what changed. Three sentences is plenty. If it runs, it runs with your name and firm on it.

By sending, you confirm the idea is yours to share and cleared by your own firm's review. See the terms of use.
